Troubleshoot products that cannot be scanned or searched
Product Scan Issues
Products do not scan when (a) the product has no APN (barcode) or the APN is damaged; (b) the product does exist in Fred NXT POS but the APN is not linked to the product (for example, new packaging); (c) the product does not exist in the Fred NXT POS database (for example, new product); (d) the product is a Service Item (for example, NDSS, beauty services).
- Scan the product.
- If no result are found, enter the product name or PDE code in Search and tap Search.
- Locate the product in the list, then tap Select.
The product is added to the transaction.
If you have a discount applied, you must apply your Reason Code and Price.
- Continue with your sale or tender the transaction.
If you cannot find your product at all, it may not be in the database. Take note to add it in at a later stage and sell the item under Misc GST or Misc EX GST. You will also need to take note of any products without associated barcodes so these can be fixed.
- Log on to Fred NXT POS using your preferred method.
- Do one of the following:
- If the product has a barcode: Scan the product to be purchased.
- If the barcode is damaged, unlinked or missing: Tap the Search or Enter Quantity field and type a product description search or enter the product PDE (re-order number).

You can use a partial description search. For best results keep the search term simple and avoid entering too much information.

- Tap Enter.
A list of products matching your search criteria is displayed.
If your required product is not displayed, try searching again with different search criteria.
If you originally search Blackmores Fish Oil and cannot find your product, try a simpler search. Just Blackmores or Fish oil.
- Tap to select the required product from the search results.
The product is displayed in the Transaction screen.
If the required product still cannot be found, see Process a transaction for a product that is not in Fred NXT POS (below).
- Complete the transaction.
A Service product is a product used to record transactions, where a service is provided to the customer rather than a physical product. For example, beauty room services, weight loss consultations, NDSS, Webster packing charges, etc...
- Log on to Fred NXT POS using your preferred method.
- Tap the Search or Enter Quantity field.
- Type a product description for the Service Item or enter the product PDE.
You can use a partial description search here. For best results keep the search term simple and avoid entering too much information.
If you originally search Blackmores Fish Oil and cannot find your product, try a simpler search. Just Blackmores or Fish oil.
- Tap Enter .
A list of products matching your search criteria is displayed.
If your required product is not displayed, try searching again with different search criteria.

- Tap to select the required product from the search results.
If the price can vary depending on the specific service provided, you may be prompted to enter a price after selecting the service item.
The product is displayed in the Transaction screen.
Note: If the required product still cannot be found, see Process a transaction for a product that is not in Fred NXT POS (below).
- Complete the transaction.
Use this procedure only when the above procedures do not locate the required product.
- Tap or search for the appropriate Miscellaneous Hotkey.
If the product is to be sold as GST inclusive, select a miscellaneous product that includes GST. If the product is to be sold as GST exclusive, select a miscellaneous product without GST.
The Enter product price window is displayed.
- Enter the product price and tap Enter.
The Misc. product displays on the Transaction screen with the price as entered.
- (Optional) Add a Comment to record that this product is sold as Miscellaneous.
- Complete the sale as per normal.
Speak to your POS Manager about the best way to report un-scannable products, so they can be corrected. You may want to reprint a receipt to accompany your request.
