Voiding and Returning

This topic outlines how to process a return for a single product, an entire transaction, or an exchange (a purchase and a return in the same transaction) in Fred NXT POS. The Cashier must have security permissions enabled to allow the processing of returns, credits or exchanges. Consult an Administrator user at your store, if you require access to the Void or Return tile.

Return a product

  1. Log on to Fred NXT POS using your preferred method.
  2. Tap the Void or Return tile.
  3. Tap Return Product.
  4. Scan the product to be returned.

    Depending on your configuration, you may be prompted to select a Reason Code.

    The return product is displayed in italics with a negative quantity and negative price.

  5. Tap to select the required tender tile.

    If the customer originally paid by cash and would like a credit in cash, tap the CASH tile.

    The Tender window with the Total Amount Due is shown as a credit.

  6. Tap the Payment Amount tile (or Refund tile) to complete the return transaction for the exact value.

    When selecting Card tender, the Refund tile is displayed instead of the Payment Amount tile shown when other tender types are selected.

    Where the pinpad supports Alipay as a payment method, the refund process allows the entry of a transaction identifier.

    The transaction is now completed.

    • The return receipt is printed.
    • Fred NXT POS returns to the main screen, ready for the next transaction.

Return an entire transaction

  1. Log on to Fred NXT POS using your preferred method.
  2. Tap the Void and Return tile.
  3. If you have a copy of the receipt: Tap Return Transaction and enter the Receipt ID of the original transaction or scan the barcode on the receipt.

    — or —

  4. If you do not have a copy of the receipt: Tap Home then Edit Trans, then Search Transactions.
    • Scroll through the list of transactions and tap to select the relevant receipt.

      As you scroll through the transactions, all items on the highlighted receipt transaction are displayed on the right.

    • Tap the Return Transaction tile.

    The Returnable items screen displays all products on the selected transaction available for return.

  5. Select the product(s) to be returned.

    To make a selection, tap an individual product, highlight a product and tap the Select tile, or tap the Select All tile.

  6. Tap the Return items tile.

    Depending on your configuration, you may be prompted to select a Reason Code.

    The selected product(s) are displayed on the Transaction screen in italics with a negative quantity and negative price.

    The product(s) are returned using the same price as mentioned on the selected receipt/transaction.

  7. Tap to select the required tender tile.

    — or—

    Tap the Exact tile to complete the return for the exact dollar value in Cash.

    The tender window is displayed with the Total Amount Due shown as a credit.

  8. Tap the Payment Amount tile (or Refund tile) to complete the return transaction for the exact value.

    When selecting Card tender, the Refund tile is displayed instead of the Payment Amount tile shown when other tender types are selected.

    The return is now complete.

    • The return receipt is printed.
    • Fred NXT POS returns to the main screen, ready for the next transaction.

Process an exchange

  1. Log on to Fred NXT POS using your preferred method.
  2. Tap the Void or Return tile.
  3. Tap the Return Product tile.
  4. Scan the product to be returned.

    Depending on your configuration, you may be prompted to select a Reason Code.

    The return product is displayed in italics with a negative transaction quantity and negative price.

  5. Scan or search the product(s) to be purchased in exchange.
  6. Tap to select the required tender tile.

    — or —

    Tap the Exact tile to complete the return for the exact dollar value in cash.

    The Tender window with the balance of the Total Amount Due is displayed. This may be a credit or debit value, depending on the exchange performed.

  7. Tap the Payment Amount tile (or Refund tile) to complete the exchange transaction for the exact value.

    When selecting Card tender, the Refund tile is displayed instead of the Payment Amount tile (shown when other tender types are selected).

    The exchange is now complete.

    • The return receipt is printed.
    • Fred NXT POS returns to the main screen, ready for the next transaction.
