Discounting PBS scripts
Since 1 January last year (2016), approved pharmacists have had the option to discount the PBS patient co-payment by a maximum of $1.00 per PBS supply.
The discount for co-payment general and concession prescriptions is capped to $1.00 for Section 90 pharmacies (Community and some Hospital pharmacies) and Section 92 Dispensing Doctors. For Section 94 Private Hospital Pharmacies, the discount amount is uncapped. Friendly Society Pharmacies may continue with existing arrangements for their members.
In Fred Dispense, you can apply a discount to an individual patient, or to specific types of patients, within the terms of the 6CPA. Discounting rules are applied and set from the Co-payment discount rules screen. Then, when you dispense, the script’s patient price is automatically calculated according to the discounting rules you have set.
For full instructions on setting up discounting rules in Fred Dispense, see Discounting PBS Scripts.
