Urgent Action Required: New Fred Dispense Update Available

Previously you were provided with access to the 2nd September 2021 Fred Dispense update. This has now been replaced by the 6th September 2021 Fred Dispense update which includes changes to the Fred Dispense drug update. The changes are to rectify the generic code of a newly added private drug—FENTANYL ASPEN 500mcg/ 10 mL Amps.

This new update is available for you and should be downloaded automatically within the next 24 hours. Once fully downloaded, you will be prompted to run the update on start-up of Fred Dispense.

It is essential that you run both the program update and the drug update when prompted.

See Update Fred Dispense for instructions on updating Fred Dispense.

Late Addition: Incorrect barcodes for ANAPEN auto-injector syringe

We have been advised by the manufacturer of ANAPEN that the incorrect barcodes were provided for inclusion with the September 2021 drug update.

The medications affected, along with the correct barcodes are detailed below:

Medication Incorrect
barcode

ANAPEN JUNIOR 150 AUTO-INJ 150mcg/0.3mL, 1

ANAPEN 500 AUTO-INJ 500mcg/0.3mL, 1

Since the incorrect barcodes were included in the September 2021 drug update, please be advised that performing scan checks for the above medications will likely return as an incorrect scan.

Careful, manual checking of these items is critical.

The correct barcodes will be included as part of the October 2021 drug update. However, in the interim, you can manually add the correct barcodes to the respective cards to assist with scan checking.

MedView Flow Pharmacy Notifications

Pharmacies are now able to get notified via email whenever they receive a new order from any patient apps or third parties that have integrated with MedView Flow. When a patient submits an order for their token using one of the medication apps and services available to your store, you will get an email notifying you of this order which includes the following information.

For more information, including how to enable notifications, see Pharmacy Notifications in MedView webhelp.

Support your patients struggling to manage multiple ePrescriptions

The free My Script List (MySL) service provides a consolidated digital list of a patient’s current prescriptions, and removes the need to receive and manage separate tokens for each prescription and repeat.

Talk to your patients about setting up their digital My Script List (MySL). My Script List provides a free and simple way for you to access, manage and dispense patients' current medications. My Script List removes the need to receive and manage separate ePrescription tokens and puts an end to prescriptions being lost.

With the MySL indicator in Fred Dispense, you can instantly see if a patient has a My Script List.

If needed, you can:

  • Assist them to complete an easy once-off registration process.

  • Obtain consent for your pharmacy to dispense from their MySL.

See Dispense Prescriptions from a Patient's MySL for more details.

In the News: Patient Ordering with WhatsApp

WhatsApp for Patient Script Ordering was recently profiled on 9News Melbourne.

With MedView WhatsApp Patient Script Ordering, your patients who have a MySL can connect to your pharmacy and request their electronic prescriptions to be dispensed for pickup or delivery (if offered) with the WhatsApp messaging service.

Check on Service Performance Status

Our platforms are continuously monitored for outages and performance issues. Should there be any interruptions in service—for example to MedView Flow, we’ll provide status updates on the Service Performance Status page of our website.

Pharmacist Substitution of PBS Medicines without a Prescription during Shortages

Where a Serious Scarcity Substitution Instrument (SSSI) has been issued by the Therapeutic Goods Administration, community pharmacists can substitute specific medicines without prior approval from the prescriber so long as the permitted circumstances within the SSSI are met. A list of the substitute medicines that are eligible for dispensing as pharmaceutical benefits under these arrangements is available from the PBS website .

Substitution under this SSSI arrangement will not be available via the usual GS/G functionality in Fred Dispense.

Pharmacists will need to refer to the table on the PBS website and manually select the correct PBS item code should they wish to perform a substitution under this circumstance.

This Month's PBS Changes

For the full Schedule of Pharmaceutical Benefits, go to the PBS website at http://www.pbs.gov.au/ where you can search the schedule by drug name.

For your convenience, we've also uploaded a printable summary of this month's important PBS changes to this site.

For Highly Specialised Drugs (HSD) items (CAR and non-CAR), please refer to the Schedule of Pharmaceutical Benefits as well as Services Australia to confirm whether the PBS item code for a HSD is eligible to be dispensed and claimed by your pharmacy type.
