The Pharmaceutical Society of Australia Conference (PSA17)

28- 30 July 2017, Hyatt Regency Sydney, Darling Harbour

The Pharmaceutical Society of Australia’s flagship annual conference is back this time as a global event with the Commonwealth Pharmacists Association (CPA) where PSA17 will continue to lead pharmacy innovation, driving the future of the profession and industry through innovation, diversity, and expanded new models of practice for pharmacists.

You'll find Fred at Stand 11 (Fred NXT) and Stand 24 (MedView powered by eRx).

Add an RACFId to a Nursing Home

From 1 July 2017, when dispensing PBS/RPBS items to a nursing home patient, pharmacists are expected to include the nursing home's RACFIdClosed Residential Aged Care Facility Identification Number. A unique identifier provided by the Commonwealth Government Department of Health to nursing homes and other residential aged care facilities.. In Fred Dispense, you can add an RACFId to a nursing home; the RACFId will then appear on every script dispensed to patients in that nursing home.

  1. From the Lists menu ([Alt+L]), select N-Homes/Hospitals ([N]).
  2. On the Nursing Homes/Hospitals window, set the Facility Type to Nursing Home, then select Find, or press [F], to select the nursing home you want to edit.

Only Residential Aged Care Facilities require an RACFId; public and private hospitals are not affected.

  3. With the nursing home selected, enter the nursing home's RACFId, then click Save, or press [S].

For more details on RACFId use, see this PBS communication: http://www.pbs.gov.au/news/2017/06/nrmc-files/revised-dispensing-nursing-home-residents-july-2017.pdf

Discounting Rules

As per the 6CPA, approved pharmacists may (but are not obliged to) discount the PBS patient co-payment by a maximum of $1.00 per PBS supply.

In Fred Dispense, you can set up automatic discounting rules for patient types from the Automated Co-payment Discount Rules screen. Rules are customisable using specific parameters. Automated discounting rules can be overriden manually on the main dispensing screen.

To get started with discounting rules, see Discounting PBS Scripts
