ePrescribing and COVID-19 response

Please read the news announcement on our website for an update on the ePrescribing rollout and COVID-19 response . Our video Enabling ePrescriptions in your Pharmacy highlights the importance of this activity and provides guidance for activating ePrescriptions in your pharmacy.

Your pharmacy has received instructions and setup codes by email for self-activating ePrescribing in Fred Dispense, if patients are presenting at your pharmacy with ePrescription tokens. If you need further assistance, refer to Electronic Prescriptions or contact Fred Help.

YOUR PHARMACY MUST BE EPRESCRIBING ACTIVATED TO DISPENSE A TOKEN

You are not permitted to dispense from an ePrescription token unless you have completely activated ePrescribing capabilities in your pharmacy. This requires you to use both MedView Flow to view the ePrescription details as well as the ePrescribing enabled version of Fred Dispense to complete the dispensing to eRx. If you are not completely enabled to dispense ePrescriptions, you must not supply from the token. Instead contact the prescriber and ask them to cancel the ePrescription token and issue a paper script.

MedView Patient Connect

Fred is pleased to announce the public beta release of MedView Patient Connect to enable patients to forward their ePrescription tokens directly into the MedView Flow queue of their pharmacy of choice. This feature is intended to assist patients isolated by COVID-19 restrictions and supports contactless pick-up and delivery for new and repeat ePrescription tokens.

MedView Patient Connect is an optional module for MedView Flow which will be made available for FREE until 30 November 2020 to assist during the COVID-19 crisis and while the module is in beta phase.

MedView Patient Connect will be activated for all MedView Flow Pharmacies on Monday 24 August 2020.

What's new in Fred Dispense?

Late Addition: ePrescription token can no longer be scanned in Fred Dispense

Fred Dispense (version 5th September) includes a change to prevent ePrescription tokens from being scanned from within Fred Dispense. If you try to scan a token, the following message displays to remind you that electronic prescriptions need to be processed via MedView Flow to comply with legislation for script viewing.

Paper scripts (with a barcode) can continue to be scanned from within Fred Dispense.

Set responsible pharmacist for dispensing ePrescriptions

This release now includes the ability to set a Responsible Pharmacist password so that:

  • Pharmacists do not need to enter in the password each time they dispense an ePrescription
  • Dispense Technicians can dispense ePrescriptions under the supervision of the Responsible Pharmacist

See Set responsible pharmacist for dispensing ePrescriptions for details.

MedView Flow COM Installer

If you haven't already installed the MedView Flow COM Component on some or all of your dispense terminals during a previous Program Update, you will be prompted again during the September 2020 Program Update.

Make sure that you install this component on every terminal that is used for dispensing.

See MedView Flow COM Installer for details.

Cyber security: Why antivirus software is no longer enough.

With the increasing reliance on digital data pharmacies are now more than ever before, at a higher risk of cyber attacks. In this short video David Kerr from Fred IT Group explains how to manage these risks in your pharmacy.
