Medication that is "When Required"
Fred Pak
A When Required medication is packed separately on its own foil so it can be taken as needed instead of at set times. A drug can be flagged as when required when it is packed and can be marked if a foil is required or not.
When a When Required (PRN) medication is first added to a patient's packing profile, the Require Foil? option will default to Y. This means that the foil is flagged for printing in the next nursing home print run. After the foil has been printed the Require Foil? option will change to N. Whenever the patient requires a foil for that drug again, changed the Require Foil? to Y.
To configure When Required (PRN) medication to be printed in the nursing home print run:
- Select the patient.
-
Use the up and down arrow keys to highlight the PRN Medication.
-
Press <F4> to edit or <U> to update.
-
Change the Require Foil? option to Y.
- Press <END> or <ALT+S> to save.
Alternatively the PRN medication can be printed just for one individual patient. For further information regarding this procedure, see Pick a Specific Drug, Tray or Dosage Time to Print.
If a patient belongs in a Nursing Home that does NOT Pack PRN medications into foils as defined in Lists > Nursing Homes, the Require Foil? entry field will not be a valid option when adding When Required medications.
