Configure IME Options for Medicare Number Validation
The IME Options tab on the Fred Dispense Configuration window enables you to configure how Fred Dispense validates patients' Medicare Numbers, for compliance with IME.
Access the IME Options
- From the Settings menu ([Alt+S]), select Dispense Options ([D]).
The Fred Dispense Configuration window is displayed. -
Select the IME Options tab.
- Make the required changes.
- To save your changes and close the window, click Save. Alternatively, to discard your changes, click Cancel.
Using the IME Options
Perform Medicare Details Validation Processing?
This setting controls whether Fred Dispense performs validation on patients' Medicare Numbers and Medicare Card expiry dates.
- To turn on validation processing, enter Y.

To turn off validation processing, enter N.
Turning off validation processing also turns off the prompts to enter Medicare details when a patient without Medicare details is selected.
For existing Patients with Medicare Numbers entered; Set Consent to <Y>es or <Ask> next time Patient is Accessed?
This setting enables you to set the Medicare details storage consent of existing patients, in bulk.
- To automatically assume that all existing patients have consented to having their Medicare details stored in Fred Dispense, enter Y.
- To ask each patient for their consent the next time they are selected in Fred Dispense, enter A.
A prompt will be displayed the next time each of these patients is selected, instructing you to ask the patient for their consent to store their Medicare details.
Forward Expiry Date check; Warn if Medicare Numbers will Expire in the next __ days
When you select a patient, Fred Dispense can warn you if their Medicare Card Number is expiring soon.

To turn on this warning, enter the minimum number of days before expiry that Fred Dispense will warn you.
For example, if you enter 30, Fred Dispense will display a warning when you select a patient whose Medicare Card Number is due to expire in 30 days or sooner.
- To turn off this warning, enter 0.
Warn user if Medicare 'Valid-To' date is left Blank?
This setting applies when a patient is added or updated.
- To display a warning if the patient's Medicare Number Valid To date is left blank, enter Y.
You will not be able to save the changes to the patient until the date is entered. - To not display this warning, enter N.
When updating or adding patients; Warn if Patient with Same Medicare Number exists on file?
This setting applies when a patient is added or updated.
- To display a warning if the patients Medicare Number is the same as another patient in Fred Dispense, enter Y.
You will be prompted to either switch to the existing patient, or save the new patient with the duplicate Medicare Number. - To not display this warning, enter N.
