ePrescription Indicator

Main Dispense Screen

If the prescription is an ePrescription, you will see the following indicators on the Main Dispense Screen.

The Send Electronic Prescription To field represents the customer's preferences as set up in the Patient Details screen.

Dispense Label and Coding Sticker

Electronic prescriptions display an indicator (E) on dispense labels and coding stickers. The 'E' prints to the right of the number of repeats.

Click the thumbnail below to see a larger image.

eScript View

eScript View enables you to see a preview of an electronic script that you have pushed through to Fred Dispense from MedView Flow.

For compliance purposes, continue to refer to the script image in MedView Flow when dispensing.

Prescriber cannot be Changed

When dispensing ePrescriptions, you cannot change the Prescriber. If you try to change the prescriber, the following message displays:

Brand Substitution Indicator

The Main Dispense screen now includes an indicator if brand substitution (also known as generic substitution) of the drug is not allowed.

If the prescriber has specified that brand substitution is not allowed for this script, an indicator is displayed above the Drug field.

Any customer preference that may have been toggled on when receiving the script in MedView Flow does not affect this display.

If you choose to substitute the brand of the medication in this scenario, a blue message displays as well as a popup where you can make a note and then OK.

If you select Cancel, the following warning message displays.

ePrescription Annotations

Annotations can be recorded against the dispensing of an ePrescription in the same way that a handwritten note could be written on a paper prescription.

If a doctor has added an annotation to an ePrescription, then depending on your settings, the annotation may automatically display when you press TAB to navigate between the Medical Doctor field and the Drug or Repeat No field.

Alternatively, you can add an annotation at any time to an ePrescription:

  1. Select the eRx button on the toolbar.

The button is red if there is an existing annotation and green if the script has no annotations.

  2. Select Add/Edit Note.

  3. Enter your note in the popup and OK.

Your new annotation displays in the Pharmacist Notes section.

  4. Click Save.

Any annotations that you make will be visible when the repeat is dispensed. This includes at other pharmacies, if the repeat is dispensed elsewhere.

Script Claim Number Display

The Script Claim Number Display (Activities > PharmPay Claim > Script/Claim Number Display) includes an indicator if the script is an ePrescription.

Offline - Dispense an ePrescription as Owing

There may be rare occasions when you have lost connectivity and have to dispense an ePrescription while offline. When you are offline, you cannot scan token retrieve ePrescriptions from the Script Exchange. When you try to scan the token, and the Prescription Delivery Service is unavailable, then the eRx toolbar icon displays the following.

We recommend you contact the prescriber to obtain the script details over the phone, then dispense the script as owing.

  1. In the Main Dispense screen, select the patient.
  2. Contact the prescriber to obtain the details for this dispensing.
  3. At the Script Type field, add an O to Script type.
  4. (Optional) Press TAB to associate the SCID with this owing script.

Associating the SCID with the owing script will help with doing an owing mark off later on.

At the prompt, type in the SCID or enter LS to input the Last Scanned SCID.

The script will display as Owing and will show the SCID number associated with it.

  5. Continue dispensing as usual.

For further details, refer to Dispense and Reconcile Owing Prescriptions.

Pre-Preparation Report

The Claim Pre-Preparation Report has been updated to make it easier to identify which scripts were dispensed as ePrescriptions. An 'e' now displays to the left of any ePrescriptions in the report.

When you run the Claim Pre-Preparation Report you will be able filter the results to show the relevant scripts for the nominated Claim Period (or Dispense Date Range, if selected). The filter options include:

  • A - All Scripts. The image above is an example of a report generated with this option.
  • P - Paper Scripts Only.
  • E - Electronic Scripts Only.

Patient Details Screen Changes

The Patient Details screen now includes fields for the patient's Email address and ePrescription Preference.

Token Delivery Method

The ePrescription Preference determines the method by which the patient receives a token for the next repeat (if relevant) once the current script is finalised.

When you dispense an ePrescription, the above preferences are compared against the token delivery method stored in the electronic prescription. If there is a mismatch, you will be prompted as in the example below.

Select:

  • Yes to use the email address stored in the ePrescription. In this example, the token for the repeat prescription would be sent to 'george.patient@hotmail.com'.

You would then see a further message:

Select Yes if you want to update the patient record in Fred Dispense to match the details stored in the ePrescription. Otherwise, select No.

  • No to use the existing patient preference details stored in Fred Dispense. In the example below, the token for the repeat prescription would be sent to 'gp@email.com'.

Reissue Token

Tokens for Repeats can be re-issued if they are lost or accidentally deleted form the patient's mobile phone.

  1. From the Wait screen, retrieve the relevant patient script's details.
  2. (Optional) Press F8 to open the Patient Maintenance form and edit or update the Email address or Mobile Phone number in the patient record.
    1. Select the relevant ePrescription Preference:
      • Email
      • SMS
      • Paper
    2. Return to the Wait screen.
  3. In the Printing Options group, select Reissue Token

  4. The script is retrieved from the Electronic Script Exchange and a new token is sent to the patient (or printer) using the nominated ePrescription preference.

History Merge

The History merge function (Activities > History Merge) does not allow for the merging of ePrescriptions. ePrescriptions are identified in the list with an ā€˜eā€™ in the Type column.

If you try to merge a patient with ePrescriptions, the following message displays:

Script Audit for Regulatory Body

If your pharmacy needs to provide details of an ePrescription as part of an audit for a regulatory body, you can run an Electronic Script Export.

  1. Select Report > Script > Electronic Script Export for Regulatory Body.
  2. At the prompt, enter the script number and [Enter].

The report is generated as an html document which can be provided to the regulatory body as required.
